Warren County Board of Education Names New Superintendent
The Warren County Board of Education is thrilled to announce the selection and appointment of
Dr. Mary Young as the next superintendent of Warren County Schools. Dr. Young will take office
on July 15, 2019.
During the search process, the Board carefully reviewed applications from a diverse field of 30
excellent candidates. Although many qualified candidates applied, the Board felt that Dr, Young’s
diverse experience, visionary leadership, and sincere dedication to students would best serve
Warren County Schools students, staff, and the community. The Board is confident that Dr. Young will lead the school system to high achievement.
Dr. Young has enjoyed a successful career in public education for more than 20 years. She is a
proven leader. For the past five years, she has served with Prince George’s County Public
Schools in Maryland as an Executive Director in the Office of Employee Performance and
Evaluation and as Instructional Supervisor. Prince George’s County is a large urban school
district serving over 130,000 students. Before going to Maryland, Dr. Young worked with the
South Carolina Department of Education as Education Associate/Program Director. She also has
served as a principal in several schools in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Young also has an impressive academic background. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts in
Interdisciplinary Studies at the University of South Carolina. She obtained a Master of Education
in Reading and a Doctorate in Educational Administration and Policy with a Minor in Business
Administration, all from Howard University.
Dr. Young is a native of South Carolina and has shared that Warren County feels like home to her,
as she grew up in a very similar southern community. Dr. Young looks forward to leading the Warren County School System, making Warren County her home and becoming an active member of the community. She is eager to get to know our students, teachers, staff, and parents. The Board is confident that she will be a strong and visionary leader who will appreciate our cultural history and implement a bold and positive vision for the school system.
Dr. Young is married to Timothy Young, Sr. and together they have three sons: Timothy, Jr., Nigel,
Dr. Young has issued the following statement about the position:
“I am honored and excited to have been chosen as the new superintendent and look forward to
working collaboratively with the school board, staff, parents and community. With an emphasis
on teamwork and a “student first” mindset, I am committed to provide all students with an
exceptional educational experience, which will assist them in becoming productive members of an ever-changing global society.”
