5th Grade Ecosystems Inquiry Projects

Fifth graders at Mariam Boyd Elementary School took part in Project Based learning this week as they completed an Ecosystem Inquiry Project. The project, which was designed to expand students’ understanding of the relationships among organisms, prompted students to bring their learning to life as they created a life-like display that demonstrated their understanding of the unit’s objectives.

Fifth Grade Science instructor, Ms. Orlinda Terry, designed the project to provide students with a hand-on way to showcase the learning that took place in class. 5th grade learning has focused around the understanding of ecosystems and biomes, which is defined as “a large naturally occurring community of flora and fauna occupying a major habitat.” Examples of 5th grade biomes included rainforest, desert, grassland, aquatic, and taiga.

We thank Ms. Terry for her dedication to all students and the creation of learning experiences which allows them to engage in a rigorous curriculum that allows for a deeper acquisition of knowledge.
