From the Principal

Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year! We are incredibly excited to begin our school year here at Warren County Middle School! I am eagerly anticipating a successful and rewarding year, and I look forward to working with the dedicated staff, parents and community to provide an exceptional experience for all WCMS students. During the 2018-2019 school year, WCMS will continue to build upon and refine the proven foundation of high-quality work, honored traditions, and continued excellence in education!

I am new to Warren County Middle School as principal, but not new to our district. I was born in Warren County and continue to make this great county my home. I received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree from North Carolina Wesleyan College in Rocky Mount, NC. I also received a Master of School Administration degree from NC State University. I have had varied work experiences in Warren County Schools such as finance secretary, teacher, principal intern, assistant principal and principal. These educational opportunities have afforded me experience on the elementary, middle and high school levels.

Our Instructional Focus this school year is on literacy in both math skills and reading/writing skills. Our goal is to ensure every student is able to functionally deal with these two primary subject areas by the time they leave grade 8. Most students will reach these goals through a mix of traditional learning programs and the latest research-based pedagogy in education. Students who struggle with learning for a variety of reasons will also learn in an inclusive setting, but with additional supports to ensure their continued progress towards the instructional focus goal.

Family involvement is an important piece of your child’s education. I want to encourage all parents and guardians to continue supporting the efforts of their children as they strive to be a beacon of academic success. It is often difficult because of our work schedules to be fully involved in every aspect of our children’s lives, but I encourage everyone to spend a few minutes each day to discuss with your child the importance of education and to find out what they are working on in their classrooms. I also invite all parents and guardians to engage with your child’s teachers, as it is proven that good parent-teacher communication helps children to progress in school.

We look forward to a very positive and productive year together! We extend a special, yearlong invitation to our families to join us at school activities and events whenever possible. We want…we need….and we value your partnership in supporting your child’s education!

Once again, WELCOME BACK! Let’s make this a great year at WCMS together!
