On February 28, Warren County High School hosted a powerful Black History Month program celebrating the rich heritage, achievements, and contributions of Black leaders, artists, and changemakers. Though brief, the program delivered a profound impact, featuring inspiring speeches from distinguished guests, including Melissa Elliott, the first African American and first female mayor of Henderson, North Carolina, and Ms. Edythe Thompson, a dedicated community activist. The event also included soul-stirring musical performances, with a moving psalmist rendition by Ms. Evelyn C. Couch and a heartfelt vocal performance by staff member Ms. Julia Foster, both of whom captivated the audience with their artistry. The program was a collaborative effort led by Dr. William Purvis, Behavior Specialist for Warren County Schools, and Dr. Cynthia Simons, Principal of Warren County High School. Students and staff actively participated, further enriching the experience. Attendees also viewed a compelling video showcasing Rebuildcommunitiesnc.org, highlighting efforts to honor the past while inspiring future generations. The event served as a profound tribute to Black excellence, resilience, and cultural legacy.
