Northside Bulldog Families,
Starting Wednesday February 2, 2022, all Northside students will eat lunch in the cafeteria. I want to personally explain to you why we are making this change and how it will benefit your student.
Our students and staff are required to wear face masks except for when they’re eating or drinking, so the overwhelming majority of our quarantines are because students are close to each other when they remove their mask to eat in their classrooms.
To address this issue and reduce quarantines, we’re moving lunches back to the cafeteria and staggering lunch schedules to limit the amount of time students remove their face mask for eating. The staggered lunch schedule also allows students to spread out more in the cafeteria with an empty seat between students when their masks are off. Students will have assigned seats, to help with contact tracing if needed. This will significantly reduce the number of students required to quarantine if someone is diagnosed with COVID and help us avoid needing to quarantine entire classes. As an additional layer of protection, we’ve installed medical-grade air purifiers in the cafeteria to improve air quality and circulation.
The layering of all these preventive measures offer us the best protection against exposures to COVID-19 and mass quarantines. We are thankful for these additional resources and excited about the opportunity for our students to return safely to the cafeteria.
Thank you for your support of Northside K-8.
